NetworkComputing Live On TechWeb TV Thursday

It's time for another episode of TechWeb's Valley View, our live web TV show. We're taking a decidedly hard core turn toward a more demonstrable and hands-on version in deference to the re-launch of Network Computing, complete with Whiteboard Tutorials and ReviewCam demos, covering topics such as storage infrastructure, virtualization, cloud computing, WAN acceleration, and disk storage security.

You can watch the show live starting at 4 pm Pacific this Thursday, September 10 here or here (you can view our very first Valley View show at those sites, on demand, now). Once again, we're shooting Valley View live from our offices in San Francisco, and again, we're inviting a live, in-studio audience.

We've had some success providing a more hands-on approach to these shows, asking vendors to come in and not just talk about what they are doing, but show us. We sent out requests to several companies and, except for Amazon, they all responded. We've asked Arista and Cisco to help us take an in-depth look at iSCSI and Fibre Channel over Ethernet, but we're handcuffing them to a whiteboard so we can see some of the architectural differences and advantages of each approach.

We'll have some other Whiteboard sessions, including a deeper look at virtual private clouds, courtesy of Savvis. And our own Tom Trainer will explore the issue of encryption on data stored on tape and on disk. We'll get an look at how vendors accomplish encryption and encryption key management.

We have several product demonstrations, where we'll be putting a few solutions through their paces. Those include IP address management from Infoblox, remote virtual desktop deployment and management from MokaFive (they'll be demonstrating central control, portability and security), WAN acceleration from Silverpeak (specifically focusing on the challenges data replication and backup over a WAN), and finally our own Mike Fratto will show off some of the capabilities of StrataScale's infrastructure in the cloud offering.

Please join us for what promises to be a chance to really get a great understanding of some unique products and technology.
