Lenovo has introduced a 17-inch ThinkPad mobile workstation with a built-in Wacom graphics tablet.

The ThinkPad W700, which ships in the beginning of September, also includes a built-in Pantone color calibrator, and will be available with either an Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor or Core 2 Duo processor.

The machine includes 8 GB of DDR3 memory and two hard disk drive bays that can be configured for either RAID 0 or RAID 1. For external storage, the machine is available with an optional Blu-ray disk burner.

For graphics support, the W700 is available with either a 512-MB Nvidia Quadro FX 2700M or 1-GB Nvidia Quadro 3700 Open GL graphics processor. The notebook is available with either a 17-inch WXGA or WUXGA display, and can drive up to two external displays.

Other features include five USB ports, a 1394 Firewire port, an integrated fingerprint reader, and an optional built-in camera.

Pricing starts at $2,949, and Lenovo is taking orders online.

Along with the new 17-inch mobile workstation, Lenovo also sells the ThinkPad W500, which sports a 15.4-inch screen with a 512-MB FireGL V5700 graphics card from Advanced Micro Devices. Pricing for the W500 starts at $1,629.

Lenovo, best-known in the United States for its ThinkPad business notebooks, has a consumer product line called IdeaPad. This month, the company launched its first low-cost mini-notebook.

The IdeaPad S10 has a 10-inch screen and keyboard that's 85% the size of a full keyboard. The notebook is powered by Intel's recently released Atom process for mobile Internet devices. Pricing for the S10 starts at $399.
