Readers Vote On Open Source BI
A recent Biz Intelligence Pipeline poll shows that most readers are curious about open-source BI to one degree or another, but none of the current vendors stand out in this young, fast-growing market niche.
Business Intelligence Pipeline readers are of many minds when it comes to the open-source BI initiatives that interest them most. Responses to our most recent readers' poll show that most readers appear interested in open-source business intelligence to one degree or another, but none of the current open-source entries garners clear favor.
Slightly more than a fifth of Business Intelligence Pipeline readers said none of the main open-source BI initiatives -- BIRT, JasperSoft or Pentaho -- interest them at all. Another 17 percent said it's too early to tell which holds the most promise.
Among the majority of respondents with interest in at least one initiative, JasperSoft led the way with 27 percent of votes. BIRT, which is offering an open-source reporting tool, was second with 21 percent of votes. Coming in third was Pentaho, which claimed 14 percent of votes.
For a rundown on the prominent open-source offerings available now, check out this overview. It provides general information on BIRT, JasperSoft and Pentaho.
Our Pipeline Voting Booths are unscientific, but our open-source poll provides anecdotal evidence that our readers have yet to choose a clear-cut favorite among the options now available -- if they favor any of them all. In the meantime, we'll keep you in the loop on the many open-source BI developments that continue to develop this year and beyond.
