CyberSource Corp. yesterday added a shipping-related service to its suite of E-commerce offerings. Company executives said [email protected], short for delivery address verification, is intended to help Web merchants avoid shipping errors due to order-entry errors that may crop up in the transaction process.
"We have seen [email protected] cut the incidence of returned goods from 3% to well under 1% by identifying undeliverable addresses early in the order flow," said Richard Lancaster, president of CobWeb Inc., an E-commerce solution provider, in a statement. "When you're shipping 100,000 pieces at $20 apiece, that kind of reduction results in huge cost savings."
CyberSource's offerings include services such as online payment processing and credit-card fraud protection. It provides these services directly to approximately 400 merchant sites on the Web, including Internet retailers that sell computers, such as Buy.com, as well as other types of merchants such as MotherNature.com, an online retailer of vitamins.
