Credit Suisse Disruptive Technology Portfolio Mover Of The Week: Ultimate Software
An index of companies shaking up traditional business models.Ultimate Software gained ground last week, as the provider of on-demand HR software and member of the Credit Suisse Disruptive Technology Portfolio benefited from stable demand and cautiously optimistic expectations for its third quarter.
The unpredictability of sales over the summer months often makes the September quarter a risky period for software companies. But unlike past years, several vendors have reported strong third-quarter financial results, indicating that demand is holding up within the industry. Most recently, Kenexa--another hosted HR software company--said its September quarter would come in ahead of management's forecast. Despite those announcements, many investors appear to have been expecting a 3Q earnings shortfall for Ultimate Software. But the stock rose when the company stated its earnings release date, thereby signaling that it would at least achieve prior forecasts. After announcing the timing of its 3Q results, the stock rose almost 13%, ending the week up 8.8%.
