Compaq Launches SAP Outsourcing Service

Compaq is making an Internet-based SAP outsourcing service available to small and midsize businesses. The service, introduced today, is for SAP R/3 4.0 applications on Microsoft Windows NT, and will be offered exclusively through Compaq's channel partners.

Custom SAP R/3 outsourcing services have been offered for several years by the services arm of Digital Equipment, which was acquired last year by Compaq. Clients include Perkin-Elmer and DSM Engineering Plastics. Compaq will continue to offer such custom services to its large business customers, and will provide server management and network support for the offering, called Compaq FutureSourcing for SAP R/3 Utility, out of its data center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The first two Compaq channel partners to agree to resell FutureSourcing are OAO Technology Solutions Inc. in Greenbelt, Md., and Total Tec Systems Inc. in Edison, N.J.
