Workday: You're not quite there just yet
Despite Workday's Cinderalla act on the Dow, the fact remains that it doesn't have a snowball's hope when it comes to competing with either Oracle or SAP. Workday has a market cap of approximately $16 billion, while Oracle stands at approximately $185 billion and SAP AG is valued at approximately $96 billion, not to mention that Oracle & SAP have much better brand recognition, much larger customer bases & gargantuan advertising/research budgets. Not to mention that both Oracle & SAP can easily absorb smaller competitors to grow even larger. Further, the entire bulk of Workday's target audience is a US subscriber base which means that in order to be even a little bit competitive with Oracle & SAP, it has to grow its foreign markets. Workday certainly has a very steep, uphill climb on the road to being a serious threat.
