Salesforce is touting these comparatively small events it has now run in New York and SF as "boutique" events aimed at having a more "intimate conversation" with selected influencers. I think it's just Salesforce watching the bottom line when it's under profit pressure. They still get all the media buzz, but they're far less expensive than the big Cloudforce cattle calls of years past. Salesforce has also pushed this year's Dreamforce back to December, probably taking advantage of lower rates and pushing big costs until later in the year.
