Cisco Systems, Pilot Network Services Inc., and Sun Microsystems yesterday jointly launched the Pilot Corporate Partner Networking service, which lets business networks securely connect to extranets.
Companies simply connect their WANs to one of seven Pilot Network Security Centers, which provide continuous monitoring, and are connected to Pilot's asynchronous transfer mode network. The service, which is available now, is deployed on Sun servers, ranging from the Sun Ultra 5 to the Sun Enterprise 10000. The range of servers allows the service to be customized for small workgroups up to large enterprises. The Sun Trusted Solaris Operating Environment software will also be integrated into the service.
Pilot uses a combination of expert human monitoring and technology monitoring to continually search for potential network break-ins and update its network to repel potential attacks.
