CinemaNow To Deliver Hollywood To Japan

In a first for the Japanese market, broadband users will be able to download movies including "Ocean's Twelve" and "Constantine," as well as older titles.

CinemaNow Japan Inc., said on Tuesday it has signed a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. International Television to make the latter company's movies available for download through the CinemaNow Web site.

The movies, which include recent titles such as "Ocean's Twelve" and "Constantine," as well as older titles, would be available through CinemaNow Japan's subscription service, which enables broadband users to download films on an unlimited basis as long as they are subscribers.

CinemaNow Japan, which is a joint venture among CinemaNow Inc., Tokyo-based Transcosmos, and Microsoft, said it is the first online service to offer movies from a major Hollywood studio to the Japanese market via an online subscription.

"This groundbreaking agreement is a great accomplishment for CinemaNow Japan and will deliver a first-of-its-kind service to the burgeoning Japanese market," Curt Marvis, chief executive of CinemaNow and chairman of CinemaNow Japan, said in a statement.

CinemaNow Japan's subscription service costs $12 a month. Users also have a pay-per-view option that's $2 a film for 48-hour access.
