Virtualization has become a popular way for small and medium businesses to efficiently use their computing resources. Consequently, ManageEngine added Microsoft Hyper-V support to its management solution.ManageEngine, a division of ZOHO Corp. that has been in business since 1996, has developed a broad suite of IT management tools, including Network Management, HelpDesk & ITIL, Bandwidth Monitoring, Application Management, Desktop Management, Security Management, Password Management, Active Directory reporting, and a Managed Services platform. The new Hyper-V monitoring functions are available with the ManageEngine Applications Manager, whose pricing starts at $1,590.

The new feature tracks various performance indicators, such as Hypervisor CPU usage, system services, networking, virtual storage, and virtual network stats. The system generates performance statistics and reports that enable IT administrators to gain insights and make changes, when necessary, to Hyper-V configurations.

ManageEngine has tried to focus on the mid market by designing products that are easy to install and inexpensive. The company has had success with this approach: currently more than 40,000 organizations use its management solutions. With corporations moving to virtualize their servers, the management solutions provider needed to add Hyper-V capabilities to its product line. Support for other virtualization solutions from vendors, like Citrix, should make their way into the system as the market matures.
