53 Small Business Owners Recognized For Accomplishments

In a welcome bit of good cheer amid these challenging economic times, the SBA has announced the Small Business People of the Year for 2010.Next month the US Small Business Administration will hold the annual 3-day small business week in Washington DC. Last year, our own Gayle Kesten was there to cover the event and delivered the inside scoop on SBA administrator Karen Mills' inaugural outing as the organization leader, insights on social media for business, technology as competitive advantage, and how to navigate the credit crunch.
A year later, Mills is no longer new on the scene, but the puzzle of how to harness social media for business remains and the economic outlook is still grim and the business owners that have made it this far lack confidence about recovery. Registration is now open for the event and many of the sessions will be available via Webcast.
But that's next month. This week the SBA announced 53 Small Business People of the Year. That's one for each state, plus Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Each of these winners will be honored at the event next month - and a national winners and runners up will be named. Congratulations to all and this year (as well as last year and likely next year, but let's hope not 2011) should likely carry an asterisk - piloting a thriving small business is challenging enough without the great recession.
