Google Inc. has added a YouTube-like ratings system to its video service.
Google Video now lets users add their comments to a list, rate a video on a five-star scale and associate the clip with a particular word or phrase to help them and others find it at a later time.
The new features, released this week, are similar to what's offered on YouTube, one of the most popular online video services with 12.6 million unique visitors in May, according to ComScore Networks.
The increasing number of broadband subscribers in the United States has driven the use of online video, which is also a growing advertising vehicle. Along with Google, all the major Web portals, including Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp.'s MSN, have services for finding and watching video.
