AT&T To Put Wired And Wireless Service On One Bill

The vendor will offer a bundled product in unspecified markets as it tries to fend off challengers to its long-distance customer base

AT&T this week unveiled plans to provide consumers with both wired and wireless phone service through one calling plan.

The bundled product, which includes mobile services from AT&T Wireless, will be offered this summer to AT&T's residential long-distance customers in several unspecified markets. Customers will receive one bill that includes both their wired and wireless charges.

By offering bundled services, AT&T hopes the promise of simplified billing and service will attract more customers. It's also looking to defend itself against carriers such as Verizon and SBC Communications, which are encroaching on AT&T's long-distance business, according to Meta Group analyst Don Carros.

Financial terms of the agreement between AT&T and AT&T Wireless were not disclosed.
