Applix Acquires Analytics Software Maker

TemTec's Executive Viewer software will be used by Applix as the common front end to the multiplatform data stores and applications forming part of a company's business intelligence system.

Applix Inc. on Thursday said it has acquired Temtec International B.V., a maker of analytical software for non-technical business users, for $14.5 million in stock and cash.

TemTec's Executive Viewer software will be used by Applix as the common front end to data stores and business applications that are multi-platform contributors to a company's business intelligence system, Applix officials said. Besides Applix's own TM1 system for business performance management, TemTec's technology also accesses data stored in Hyperion Essbase, Microsoft Analysis Services and SAP Business Warehouse.

Applix, based in Westborough, Mass., paid $12 million in cash and $2.5 million in common stock for privately held Temtec, based in the Netherlands. The combined company now has 2,800 customers, including Hewlett-Packard, EMC, Hoffman LaRoche, and BMW. Hubert Heijkers, Temtec managing director and founder, has joined Applix as vice president and chief architect.

Applix's performance management tools cover areas such as budgeting, forecasting, planning, reporting, and what-if analysis.
