Many companies are not strategic about communications - not just social media. Unless social media is integrated into the processes of corporate culture as a required task for which planning is done, time is allocated, performances measured and resources allocated, of course it'll end up poorly resourced. All communications should be integrated and work together, from the way in which the phones are answered through the website presence to video, images, sales and social media. Too often responsibilities are siloed, never seen in context, never optimized to work together, and training isn't provided internally to show how social, digital and other media in a mobile world can impact business outcomes.
