Google Delivers Quick Search Box To Mac Platform

Today Google announced a new desktop search client for Apple computers. The Google Quick Search Box will search the local drive, the Internet, Twitter -- pretty much everywhere -- all directly from the desktop.Ryan Tabone and Karen GrÜnberg, Product Managers, write, "With Google Quick Search Box you can search for information from just about anywhere. As you type, suggestions will appear that match your query, ranging from applications and local files on your computer, to web search and navigational suggestions, to items from your browser history and contacts - and the types of results you can get will only grow over time."

Google has also built in some actions to the search box. When you finally get results, pressing the tab key with a result highlighted will let you do different things depending on the type of result that has been delivered. One example would be to email a URL from the search results.

Google Quick Search Box can be launched by pressing Control-Spacebar or whatever key combination you'd like. Google says that the software will learn over time what sort of results you're generally looking for and then help get you there faster.

Perhaps the biggest feature is that the Quick Search Box is extensible. Custom plug-ins can help modify and extend its behavior. Google points out that a Twitter plug-in is already available and can be used to not only search for, but also to send, Tweets. Good stuff.

The software is a free download and can be snagged right here.
