Airline To Use Fee To Push Electronic Tickets, Report Says
American Airlines Inc. on April 9 will begin charging $10 more for paper tickets than electronic ones, according to a report.
The airline declined to comment on the story when contacted by InformationWeek on Monday. But the April 9 edition of BusinessWeek reports that it has a copy of an internal American memo saying that the carrier hopes the additional fee will push the use of electronic tickets, which cost $4 to $5 less to process.
Meanwhile, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey also began charging more for doing things the old-fashioned way Sunday. It increased the tolls on New York bridges and tunnels to $6. But travelers who use the electronic EZPass system will pay only $5. EZPass users will get an even bigger discount, paying just $4, if they travel outside of rush hour.
