Agile Reports 2Q Revenue Growth, Net Losses

Product data management vendor Agile Software Corp. yesterday reported stronger second-quarter sales but a larger net loss. For the quarter ended Oct. 31, the company reported revenue of $6.94 million, up from $3.81 million for the same quarter a year ago. The 82% growth in sales was accompanied by a deeper net loss for the quarter of $4.28 million, compared with a net loss of $2.74 million in the same period last year.

The company, which went public in August, sells applications that help electronics manufacturers share information with suppliers over the Internet about new products and changes to products. Its customers include Lucent Technologies, NEC, Phillips, Texas Instruments, and 3Com. Agile CEO Bryan Stolle attributed the company's revenue growth to a trend in the electronics industry toward outsourcing production, thus increasing the need for sharing product information among trading partners.

The company plans to expand its focus with the acquisition, announced last month, of Digital Market Inc., a maker of procurement software for manufacturers. That deal is expected to close next month.
