App-centric operations means seeing what the end user sees
The first step in achieving a cloud operations model is for the IT manager to see the same thing that the end user sees. That would be part of an application-centric approach. When an application got stuck or started returning error messages, the traditional IT ops manager saw a running server with a running application -- all was well. The new ops manager sees poor response times, applications yielding error messages or wrong results, and stalled apps. And goes from there in a new operations model.
