10 Cool Back-To-School Tech Tools

As students move around campus -- from crowded dorm rooms to classes to the gym to the dining hall to the pub and back again – there's a pretty good chance that expensive devices storing critical information eventually will get misplaced or stolen. The StickNFind location sticker, which is about the size of a quarter, does just what its name says: It sticks to devices, enabling them to be tracked and found if they are lost or stolen. Using Bluetooth SMART, the sticker can be tracked via a free downloadable smartphone application. The StickNFind is available in packs of two, starting at about $50.

I had no idea Podio had a free edition for students. Usually, their free accounts are limited to 5 users (plus "guest users"). Does that apply here?

Podio student edition has apparently been around for years, but as far as I can tell instructors who wanted to use it in a course would still be bound by terms that apply to business users.

I wish that all of these things had been around when I was in college. I don't want to date myself by naming the IT available to me at the time. (Let's just say I needed corrective ribbon.) How have things changed since you've been in college?

It indicates that join.me is free, but their website indicates otherwise. Did I miss something?

According to the vendor, "Basic is free, period. No time limits."

Podio sounds a lot like Lore.com, a similar platform used for education.

I love the idea of the Livescribe pen, but knowing how quickly I lose pens, I think I'd still be better at just taking notes w/ an old fashion keyboard.

The StickNFind sticker looks like it could be useful for anyone -- not just students. I may just invest in it, given my occasional absent-mindedness.

Having just lost my keys, I agree this would be incredibly useful. Hindsight is 20/20 - unlike you with your glasses! I was looking at the Tile product I see advertised on FB, but now I'll have to compare...

re: 10 Cool Back-To-School Tech Tools
These are great tech tools. I loved them all, but I want the laptop/tablet hybrid. This will surely give an edge regarding the applications. It is so clear that you can switch between Windows and Android. We all know Android is built on Ubuntu, a vendor of Linux, so we can use Android apps and then switch to Windows for Windows apps and friendly working environment.

Yes, I agree with you. Just think in one hand we have OpenOffice in Android and in another MS Office. It will be just awesome to get the working experience.
