Markets All But Unchanged At The Close

Tech issues were mixed. HP and Intel rose about 1% while IBM and CA fell.

The major indexes closed almost unchanged Wednesday, weighed down by international concerns, including the rising cost of oil.

Tech issues were a mixed bag. Hewlett-Packard rose 1.1%, or 22 cents, to $20.26; Intel rose 0.9%, or 23 cents, to $26.34; and Cisco Systems rose 0.2%, or 5 cents, to $22.42. IBM fell 0.4%, or 35 cents, to $85.35; Computer Associates fell 0.8%, or 20 cents, to $26; and PalmSource fell 0.2%, or 3 cents, to $16.75. The Nasdaq-100 tracking stock gained 0.2%, or 7 cents, to close at $36.10, on moderate volume of 92.2 million shares.

For the day, our InformationWeek 100 fell 0.3%, or 0.76 points, to 301.52, and the Nasdaq index rose 0.1%, or 2.65 points, to 1,966.08. The Dow rose 0.2%, or 20.95 points, to 10,240.29; and the S&P 500 rose 0.2%, or 2.12 points, to 1,118.33.
