re: Google's CIO Dilemma
Google is clearly large enough to embrace both the Enterprise and the Consumer worlds. Others have done so before them. It is clearly costly and the requirements of the two are different. Others have found that difficult to appreciate but itGÇÖs a fact and if Google thinks that it can be the first not to have to recognize the fact, then they will find it to be a costly mistake as others have also found. But the rewards for embracing both worlds are considerable as Google itself appreciates and therefore worth the effort to get right, which of course will include Roadmaps, Managed Releases at a frequency with which Corporations can cope and Support, which in itself will be a considerable revenue earner. In return the market will benefit from GoogleGÇÖs undoubted creativity which will no doubt amend the Roadmap but at least enable CIOs to plan. And I am sure that Google will find variations on what CIOs have become used to demand that will actually be to their benefit and to their Corporations. CIOs have had to change their roles over time and have become more mainstream to their businesses with the resulting changing demands on them to be part of delivery to consumers and so will what they receive from Google be a change to reflect the greater nimbleness to which they have had to become accustomed. Bottom line, both will have to move but both will be the better for it.
