Mobile application developer Dashboard Communication said Monday it's making its financial new reader and research portal available on the BlackBerry smartphone.

The company said its Dashboard Mobile Financial software is the first business news reader and investment dealer research portal designed specifically for the BlackBerry. Usage and access is free for capital markets staff, investment advisors, portfolio managers, hedge fund managers, financial journalists, and bloggers, the company said.

"Dashboard Financial is an innovative application designed to put financial news directly into the hands of investors," said Thom Brodeur, a senior vice president with Marketwire, in a statement. "We are delighted to provide our corporate clients with this added exposure to the ever-important financial community."

Dashboard said the Mobile Financial app is also the first RSS-enabled investment dealer research portal on the BlackBerry. In a separate password-protected section, Dashboard offers investment dealers a direct and secure communication channel to clients.

The protective measures address the long-standing challenge of secure delivery of proprietary investment research summaries to institutional banking clients on the BlackBerry, the company claimed. "Combining a one-stop news portal with proprietary research makes for an extremely compelling mobile content package for investment dealers to offer their valued clients," said Dashboard CEO Andrew Jordan.

Dashboard Mobile Financial is available now as a free download. The company is also offering it to investment dealers in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Ireland, Russia, Dubai, India, Australia, and in other Asia-Pacific countries.

"The BlackBerry is pervasive in financial centers around the world and users are hungry for content," Jordan added. "Commuting to work or between meetings, Dashboard Mobile Financial is must-have content if you work in the financial industry."
