Advancing The Cloud-Enabled Enterprise

The Cloud Connect Summit assembles cloud leaders and users to share insights and strategies on how to make the cloud work for your business.

The Cloud Connect Summit at Interop New York tackles how companies can take full advantage of the cloud today and prepare for the next wave of innovation.

Sam Charrington, founder and principal of CloudPulse Strategies, hosts the two-day Summit, which is co-located with Interop New York. Charrington spoke with TechnologyAdvice host Clark Buckner about the theme for this year, and gave an overview of the speaker lineup and key takeaways for attendees.

The Summit’s theme is Empowering the Cloud-Enabled Enterprise. Cloud discussions have evolved from “what” and “why” to focus on how companies can best take advantage of cloud technology. The Summit offers a mix of real-world use cases and forward-looking strategy sessions to help companies prepare for the next wave of cloud innovation.

The two-day event features eighteen tightly-focused presentations from cloud leaders and brand-name companies that have adopted cloud technology.

Charrington highlighted several presentations.

Jonathan Murray, EVP and Chief Technology Officer of Warner Music Group, opens the first day with a talk about the Composable Enterprise, the idea that the cloud enables businesses to build new generations of applications based on the composition of micro-services to achieve levels of agility that weren’t previously possible.

Nicholas Weaver, Principal Architect at Intel, will speak about The Post-Cloud. He’ll address new concepts such as containers, DevOps, and PaaS, and how they’ll affect the evolution of the private cloud. He’ll also share lessons from hyperscale companies such as Google that can be applied by every company.

Jane Circle, Principal Product Marketing Manager at RedHat, will give the presentation Including the Public Cloud in Your Hybrid Cloud Strategy. She’ll address how enterprises can integrate the public cloud into a hybrid cloud strategy, including how to identify which applications are best suited for the public cloud. She’ll also share best practices around public cloud adoption.

John Willis, Independent Consultant, is a long-time consultant and evangelist for DevOps and will talk about DevOps Blind Spots. The DevOps model aims to give enterprises more agility, better deliverability, and greater control over their applications through tighter collaboration among developers and IT, and a greater reliance on automation.

James Turnbull, Vice President of Services at Docker, will discuss Are VMs Passé? His talk will take a look at containers, an alternative or complement to virtual machines for deploying applications.

Charrington identified three takeaways for attendees:

First, they will understand that the cloud represents a strategic opportunity for enterprises to transform their businesses, enabling them to move more quickly and deliver capabilities to the market faster than their competition.

Second, attendees will learn best practices presented by cloud pioneers, allowing them to take full advantage of cloud services.

Third, they will see how the value of cloud computing has evolved beyond simple cost savings to encompass broader business drivers including automation and streamlined compliance and security.

While this is Charrington’s first time as host of the Cloud Connect Summit, he isn’t new to the cloud. He is the cofounder of CloudCamp, one of the earliest cloud-based conferences, and he’s been actively involved in the cloud community ever since.
